The Australian Internet Association (AIA) has announced that it plans to extend its campaign targeting unsolicited e-mails to mid-August 2003. The association launched the campaign on 16 April 2003, with plans for it to run until 16 May 2003. However, the AIA said that the scheme had proven particularly successful, and it had decided to extend the program for a further four months. AIA CEO Peter Coroneos said it offered free trial software products to stop unsolicited e-mails. Coroneos said that traffic to the association's web site had increased significantly since the beginning of the campaign. He said that so-called "spam" e-mails had been a growing problem in Australia, while US figures have shown that the total volume of unsolicited e-mails increases 18 per cent per month.
